Got really close to a Robin Hood today. And ruined a perfectly good arrow.

Kinja'd!!!

For those that don’t know, a Robin Hood is when you split an arrow with another. Mine clearly tagged the nock and deflected up a bit. (Arrow on the left is included for reference for people who don’t know what a nock should look like.)

I’d say this is more luck than actually skill. I went several months without shooting because I needed the peep sight put back in the string. I finally got a new peep sight (that won’t pop out) last week and it’s been a PITA building up some of those rusty archery muscles again.

The new peep also screwed up the aim so I needed to get it sighted back in.

This photo shows it shooting high last week. The one outlier (that’s closer to on target) is me adjusting my aim.

Kinja'd!!!

This photo is after I made some adjustments today. A little bit closer. Still needs some work but my shoulder started giving up after a few rounds and I called it a day.

Kinja'd!!!

Any other archerylops or bow hunters here?

Nice! I’ve never shot an arrow into another (and it’s been a loooong time since I’ve had my bow out) but I have lodged a steel-tip dart into the back of another, which is similar, I guess.

Wow I forgot how much I enjoy archery. It's been a few years since I used a bow and arrow, mostly at school, I'll have to get around to doing it again sometime

When I was in HS, we had archery and one kid shot a Robin Hood.

I bought a bow set up around 2007, took it out a couple times since.

A Robin Hood is a lot easier if you use larger arrows.

It's really an enriching activity. It can be physically and mentally challenging. Compound bows have made it easy to just jump into but it's still difficult to master. Plus there's that awesome connection it gives you to our ancestors, who used bows as a way of life. I love it.

I shot a bit many years ago, just got back into it and bought a bow. It is so fun, but very physically demanding like you said.

I’ve shot a bow a few times but I’ve never been very good.

Now that I have a peep that won’t pop out every six shots, I feel like I can enjoy it even more.

The complexity of compound bows had me wanting something more traditional for awhile. I’d still love to have a recurve but I’m thrilled that my compound peep is fixed and I can actually use it regularly again.

Keep working at it! The challenge is half the fun.

I’m getting close to the same accuracy and precision with no sights - how much does a peep sight help?

I have a compound bow with a full 3-pin sight setup. A peep is only really useful if you have a pin or a post sight on the bow.

Peep plus pin allows for more precise and consistent alignment of the bow. The peep is really small, so there is little wiggle room for interpretation.

They increase the precision enough that peep sights are not allowed in competition although forward sights are.

It’s really good for families too. My wife, daughter, and I all shoot. My son is somewhat ambivalent about it, though.

Archerylop checking in! Only I come from the recurve camp. I shoot a 45# vintage Bear Archery “Black Bear” and a 50# Colt bow. I even have a small range set up in my back yard. You ought to try a recurve without any sights, it’s a completely different animal.

I definitely want one.

It's funny, my older brother started with a crossbow and then I bought a compound. Now he's talking about getting a recurve so I guess I have to go a step further and get a longbow.
